Overview

The project was created to solve a deficiency in accessibility and inclusivity in virtual meetings for a client's employees. The training is intended to be instructor led (virtual or in person), and creates a scenario for learners where they have to use prior knowledge and the scaffolding provided to create a tool kit of solutions in virtual meetings.

Since best practices in virtual meetings are not always intuitive, learners are taught effective processes that transfer immediately to on-the-job skills.

Process

I designed and developed this training by working closely with subject matter experts in the field of accessibility and inclusivity in online trainings. I used action mapping, Canva, PowerPoint, and scenario-based learning to enhance the training's effectiveness.

Action Map

After meeting with my subject matter experts and identifying the scope and sequence of the training, we laid out the most important behaviors and actions to focus on. I used the program Mindmeister to craft the action map below.

Text-based Storyboard

Once we settled on the most important actions to focus on, I crafted a text-based storyboard. I decided to focus the training points on actionable steps that can be taken before and during virtual meetings. The image below shows how the storyboard was transferred to images and minimal text to reduce cognitive load for learners.

Prototype

After the text-based storyboard was completed, I developed a five-minute prototype that included the client's branding palette and the first in-person learner interaction. The hex colors and logos were pulled to match the client's branding, and I curated images that supported and enhanced the look and feel of the course.

Final Product

Once I received feedback on the prototype, I took that information and made the changes necessary to increase the effectiveness of the training. The rest of the development was fairly easy to design from here, and the final product is clean and concise. One area that I did improve in the final product is the accessibility with a screen reader. Because the learning focuses on accessibility and inclusivity, I also discussed how my presentation incorporated some of the best practices from PowerPoint.
